Bostin' Vyrnwy Velo Sportive
The Bostin' Vyrnwy Velo sportive 2018 is celebrating its fourth running by moving to a new, larger venue at the Welshpool Livestock Market. This provides our cycle event entrants with more car parking spaces, better toilet facilities and an easier to find location but it has enabled us to increase the length of all our routes and put in a bit more climbing. What's not to like!
The Bostin' Vyrnwy Velo will still offer a choice of three fully signposted routes amongst the glorious Welsh countryside, taking in the beautiful lakes at Bala and Vyrnwy for the longer riders.
All three routes will follow the same initial 25K, 15 miles or so riding from the HQ through Buttington and on towards the delightful market town of Welshpool. Here you will ride up the main street, past all the interesting shops, and out the other side to begin a climb out into the countryside beyond. The route continue up past the turning to Guilsfield, the previous location of the Bostin' Vyrnwy Velo, and on to the 2017 route riding towards a long descent before the climbing legs have to get back into gear to ascend the rise at Bwlch-y-cibau. The picturesque scenery is all around when the Bronze route turns left into a quieter country lane and leaves the other riders to carry on deeper into the hills. The Bronze routes reward, after riding through the Nant Alan river valley, is a refreshment stop at the highest point of its route at, what we call, Laughing Angel (Llanfihangel-yng-Ngwynfa). After some tea and cakes the Bronze riders head South down quiet lanes with picturesque views through rolling hills, wonderful hamlets and villages back towards Guilsfield and then retrace their steps to Welshpool and the finish line. A challenge but a memorable 70K, 40 mile ride.
The Silver and Gold riders continue upwards deeper into the Welsh Lake District, passing through the town of Llanfyllin and then onwards to Penybontfawr, where the routes divide, and the first feed station of the day. After taking on some calories the Silver route riders leave the Gold riders and turn left towards Lake Vyrnwy and a climb up to the route's second highest spot, a special wooded place with outstanding views. The route then drops down to cross over the Vyrnwy Dam before circumnavigating Lake Vyrnwy, looking out for boaters, wildlife, walkers and other cyclists, before continuing homeward and the second feed station at Llanfihangel-yng-Ngwynfa. Riders then join the Bronze route back to the finish line and a well deserved rest.
When the Silver route turns off, the Gold route riders are left to continue on to greater things. At Llangynog the route become serious as the riders begin to climb along the edge of the Afon Eirth valley with a sheer drop, but spell-binding views, to their left, and magnificent hills to their right. Then forward over moorland and more magnificent views abound before dropping down to the banks of Lake Bala and, following along side the Bala Lake Railway, to a much needed respite at our water station. After a brief stop move riders will move on to their next tough ascent with sheer drops, but spectacular views, to their right hand side as they climb up to the summit of Bwlch Y Groes and the highest point of the route. Descending over undulating moorland roads to the banks of Lake Vyrnwy they will rejoin the Silver route to the final feed station and the route home. A tough ride but breathtaking at nearly every point!

The Bostin' Series
Enter all four 2018 Bostin' events and you will receive a bostin' 25% discount against entry fees and a discount code for 10% off the price of any merchandise bought online.
This means you can ride all four events but only pay for three!
The Bostin' Series entry must be purchased before midnight on 7th April 2018 and the merchandise discount is only valid for one shopping basket completed before midnight on 28th April 2018.

- The event is open to anyone - from keen amateurs to club riders and professionals
- Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and a parental consent form must be completed at Registration.
- Entrants can only ride suitably maintained road legal bicycles with working brakes (ie. no track bikes please) powered by a chain. (see FAQ for full details of permitted bikes).
- Tandems are permitted but entry fees payable are per person and not per bike.

WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED
- spare parts, tools or on-course mechanical support
- each rider should carry their own tools, replacement inner-tubes, patches, chain-links, etc. to enable them to repair every-day mechanical failures.
- If you cannot repair your bike we will pick you up but we will not repair your bike for you.
- roads in perfect condition
- we are at the mercy of the local authorities and the weather with regard to the conditions of the road surfaces on the day of the event.
- detailed monitoring of riders around the course - although we try our best to make sure that everyone arrives back safely.
- timing chips or any other timing information - it is not a race!
